The Bathys Cesium 133 watch is not dangerous from radioactivity because it uses a stable, non-radioactive Cesium-133 chip for timing, unlike vintage watches that used radioactive radium for luminous dials, which posed risks from inhaled radon gas and alpha/beta particles. While radium watches are a hazard if damaged (especially due to radon release), the modern Cesium 133 is a marvel of accurate, stable timing, with the "hazard" being its extreme cost and prototype status, not radiation.
Why the Bathys Cesium 133 is Safe:
Stable Isotope: It uses Cesium-133, a stable (non-radioactive) atom, in a microchip to maintain incredibly accurate time, akin to tiny atomic clocks.
No Radioactive Paint: Unlike old radium dials that glowed, this watch uses modern technology, so there's no paint to degrade or release radioactive materials.
Για αυτα με (Radium) Ραδιο:
As long as the glass on the front is intact and properly sealed, there's no risk with owning it. Radium paint is notorious for making dust and flakes, so as long as the glass is containing it all, you're good .
Also, the dose rate (the microsievers per hour reading) on the GMC 600 is way off, and it's probably more like 3 or 4 microsieverts per hour, which is not dangerous.
And, as you said with the metal backing stopping a lot of the radiation, that's also true, so your wrist will only receive what comes through the back.
All lin all, don't take it apart and there is zero harm in having it.
