TAG HEUER - Fourth Manufacture

The first stone of the Avant-Garde Manufacture was layed yesterday in Chevenez.

Only a few months after the acquisition of ArteCad and less than 3 years after opening its movement manufactures in La Chaux de Fonds and Cornol, TAG Heuer continues its ambitious industrial integration process by building a new Avant-Garde manufacture in Chevenez, Canton of Jura, Switzerland.



In presence of the local representatives, Messieurs Michel Baconat, Mayor of Haute-Ajoie and Michel Probst, Ministre de l'Economie et de la Coopération du canton du Jura, as well as Jean-Daniel Pache, President of the Swiss Watchmaking Federation and Jack Heuer, Jean-Christophe Babin virtually layed the first stone by scealing a Calibre 1887 movement into a concrete block that will serve as a decor in the future Manufacture's entrance. The construction of the 2,400 square meters facility will last 18 months.





Key components of the TAG Heuer mechanical chronographs will be produced and finished, as well as assembled in the new Chevenez manufacture as early as end of 2013. In total, over 100 new jobs will be created and the site as a whole will employ over 150 staff. The mechanical movement component production currently based at the Cortech facility in Cornol will be transferred to the new Chevenez site, enabling TAG Heuer to allow Cortech to concentrate on case production while significantly increasing capacity.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer “Team USA” / “Oracle Racing” Chronographs

TAG Heuer has partnered Oracle Racing Team USA in the 34th America’s Cup, and here are the commemorative Aquaracer watches we knew were coming. There are two “limited edition” chronographs here — one with “Team USA” logo and one with “Defender” logo. Each model is available on a rubber strap or steel bracelet. If you are not up on yacht racing (like me) you may be wondering what “Defender” is all about. In short, it means that Oracle Racing Team USA won the last America’s Cup (in 2010, it was then ‘BMW Oracle USA’ beating Hublot sponsored Team Alinghi) and thus they are defending, rather than challenging for, the cup this time around. Back to the watches: of note you will see the touches of red, the official “Team USA” color, and the superbly looking “Oracle Racing Team” boat stamped on the caseback (also pictured below). In addition to the models shown here, there is also a non-chronograph “Team USA” version being produced as well, if you prefer a simpler look. All in, this is a nicely styled and respectably spec’d watch that many watch enthusiasts will be clamoring for.
