Re: DOXA
A Doxa Worn By A Cousteau Comes Up For Sale: Orange Dial Nerds, Wake Up!
There is no better cachet for a dive watch than an association with Jacques-Yves Cousteau. A lot of watches have been linked with the father of SCUBA diving and his posse over the years. The Rolex Submariner, LIP Nautic-Ski, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Aquastar Deepstar and numerous Omega models, including the Ploprof, were all seen on crew members of the Calypso. Though we’ve never seen an historical photo of an IWC on Cousteau or his dive buddies, the brand has a special edition Aquatimer dedicated to him, complete with a caseback engraving of the man himself. But there is one watch brand that was worn and endorsed by Cousteau himself, and can attribute a lot to that association: DOXA.
The original DOXA SUB 300T model, with its trademark orange dial and “no-deco limit” demarcated bezel caught Cousteau’s eye soon after its release in 1967. He liked it so much, his company, U.S. Divers, put its logo on the dial and sold it exclusively for a number of years. The black dial Sharkhunter was seen on the elder Cousteau’s wrist as well as on the wrists of his crew and his sons, Jean-Michel and Philippe, on many of their adventures. Now the DOXA SUB is again being worn by a Cousteau and one is being auctioned off to benefit Jean-Michel’s Ocean Futures Society.
DOXA is the official dive watch of the Ocean Futures expedition team, whose goal is to research the world’s oceans and raise awareness for threats to its ecology. The entire dive team is outfitted with the modern SUB 1200T model, which bears the same dimensions as the DOXAs of the ‘60s but with a modern ETA movement, 1200 meter water resistance and a helium release valve. The watch being offered in the Ocean Futures auction was actually worn by Jean-Michel Cousteau himself for over 25 hours underwater in Fiji and has a specially engraved caseback that indicates that. The auction ends on December 18th and bidding starts at $2,500. It might be tough to find an original DOXA SUB worn by Jacques Cousteau but this might be the next best thing.

Re: DOXA
DOXA SUB 4000T Professional
By TLex Here's the official word from DOXA on their new Sapphire Bezel version of the SUB 4000T which saw its release last year. The 4000T received some ridicule for its re-named power-reserve indicator 'SAFE DIVE' (not sure why they had to name it anything to be honest) but not half as much as they've been getting of late for their recent DOXAsian models. Regardless the 4000T Sapphire is the type of honest-to-goodness DOXA that we all know and love - a fine looking diver!
From DOXA Joining the SUB 4000T collection, the latest dive watch from Doxa comes equipped with a sapphire crystal bezel. Unidirectional, as professional dive watch standards require, it indicates decompression stops in feet to guarantee performance and security in the most extreme conditions.
Seasoned divers will also appreciate the luminescent hourmarkers and hands, the helium valve at 9 o'clock, and water-resistance to 1,220 metres. Not to mention its sporty good looks! Proposed as a 200-piece limited series.
MOVEMENT Automatic, 42-hour power reserve
FUNCTIONS Hours, minutes, seconds, date and power-reserve indicator
CASE Polished, satin-finish stainless steel, 46 mm. Sapphire crystal unidirectional rotating bezel. Scratchproof, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Engraved and numbered screw-down back. Helium valve at 9 o'clock.
WATER-resistant to 1,220 m (4,000 ft)
DIAL Orange. Luminescent hourmarkers and hands. Date window at 3 o'clock, power reserve at 7 o'clock
BRACELET Stainless steel with folding clasp and diving-suit extension system
VERSIONS Black dial (Sharkhunter)
