Watchuseek recently posted an in-depth review of the LACO Erbstück watch . LACO has developed a process that gives watches an artificial patina of age, enhancing them with historic charm.

The name – Erbstück” (translates into heirloom) – was created when Watchuseek met with Laco’s new CEO Uwe Rücker and Dorothea, Ursula and Sarah at LACO’s booth in Basel. In March 2016, LACO presented the prototype of this timepiece at Baselworld, the most important international watch and jewelry fair worldwide. According to LACO, the response from visitors was “overwhelmingly positive.”

LACO now collaborated with our friends at publishing house “Ebner”, who publish the German watch magazines (“Uhrenmagazin and “Chronos”). The collaboration has produced a very interesting and limited edition of 25 “California” dial – a variation of the Laco Erbstück Baumuster Type A dial.



What is a California dial? It is a watch dial that consists of half Roman and half Arabic numerals. Numbers 10 to 2 are in Roman numerals, and 4 to 8 are in Arabic numerals. 3,6, and 9 are marked with a “dash” and 12 is an inverted triangle. This dial was first used in a Rolex in the early 1940’s. Panerai made this dial famous in their modern Radiomir watch. The Laco Erbstück California dial is gradient brown color with indexes and numerals coated with Superluminova C3. The dial is housed in an antique-finished 42mm stainless steel case with double curved sapphire crystal. The sapphire crystal has AR coating for perfect visibility. The case is 12mm thick and lug width is 20mm. On the side of the case is the FL 23883 marking, and on the back of the case is special markings of “Beobachtungsuhr” with edition number. The hands are thermally heated blue and filled with Superluminova C3.



The watch is powered by ETA 2824-2 (Elaboré) automatic movement with central seconds. This limited-edition watch is available only in Germany, and can be purchased directly from Ebner publishing for 1,990 euros.
