Cuervo y Sobrinos philosophy“El Tiempo Lento”, the culture of “slow time” originated in the heat of the tropics and requires gentle movements, refinement in details and a complete life style that puts the single individual at the centre of daily life. Time is a precious asset; it should be sipped, lived and enjoyed with its perfumes and atmospheres moment by moment. Time in Havana seems almost to expand, to lose the frenzy of things to be done, to become the pleasure of ordinary daily acts.
This culture has been and is the matrix, the foundation and the very nature of Cuervo y Sobrinos from 1882 till today.
Time in Havana almost seems to swell, to lose the frenesy of the things that have to be done, to convert everyday acts into pleasures… For this reason, it can be said that in the watches of Cuervo y Sobrinos a special type of time is contained, a Caribbean time, a division that is different from the normal: time that goes slowly, that imposes itself on the way of life in Havana and is synonymous of elegance, new refinement, a brand amongst brands.
It is the culture of “time that goes slowly”, born out of the heat of the tropics, requiring gentle movements, a search for the particular and a whole way of life that places the individual in the centre of the commonplace: time is a precious gift, of which every second counts, lived amongst distinct perfumes and atmospheres, moment by moment.
Time in Havana almost seems to swell, to lose the frenesy of the things that have to be done, to convert everyday acts into pleasures, the happiness of perceiving the sensation that comes from each movement, each moment. This culture was and is the matrix, the foundation, the very essence of Cuervo y Sobrinos since 1882 up to the present day. It is in this climate, this passionate recollection of the past, Caribbean culture and pleasure in the watchmaking craft, that Cuervo y Sobrinos again takes the stage of the world’s most famous watchproducing houses, marked by these details of high quality of life.
The old watch-maker’s shop on Havana’s Fifth Avenue, one of the capital’s most representative fragments, returns to life with the intention of offering its refined products to the world at large, but above all it is the brand that returns as an emblem of the elegance and refinement that in the fifties imposed itself on the world, once again bringing to the fore a trademark that has never been forgotten. Today the great house of Havana brings to life new works of art, destined not only to last throughout time but to become collectors’ items.
As a renaissance of the mythical Cuervo y Sobrinos jeweller’s shop in Havana, the relaunching on a worldwide scale of its watch production for collectors is gaining strength: in accordance with the old tradition, the new production is characterized by the style and quality that were always typical of the brand, a limited series of items distributed throughout the world, which can only be defined as “new period watches”.
Not replicas of the models that made Cuervo y Sobrinos so famous but the very nature, the very essence of this brand of watches epitomised in new works of art. A few limited examples, time pieces of the period that were never mounted, projects, designs and sketches have been found intact in the shop’s “caveau”, all material of priceless value for the continuation in time of the Cuervo y Sobrinos identity.
Based on and with this material, our numbered series for collectors have been brought to life, designed and produced with meticulous care and skill, to which we have given the symbolic name of the famous cuts by which the cigars, the symbol of Havana, are known.
