Introducing The A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Time Zone '25th Anniversary'
The distinctive travel watch gets a sleek blue-and-silver treatment.

Quick Take

This is the fifth watch in A. Lange & Söhne's 10-watch series of limited editions, celebrating the Lange 1's 25th anniversary. So far we've gotten one per month since SIHH in January, including the Lange 1, the Grande Lange 1 Moon Phase, the Little Lange 1, and the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. This piece sits somewhere between the unbelievably complicated Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar and the more sober time, date, and power reserve models, showing a second time zone on a small dial down around five o'clock. You can quick adjust the second time zone using the extra pusher set into the case band, with the city ring traversing the outer edge of the dial in sharp jumps.

As with the other 25th anniversary models, what makes this watch different from the main collection versions of the Lange 1 Time Zone is the use of a white gold case paired with a silvered dial, blue printed numerals, and blued steel hands. Finishing things off is some extra engraving on the movement that utilizes blue scroll patterns, and a "25" that recalls the outsize date display on the front. Only 25 numbered pieces are being made, and they're sure to go quickly.


Initial Thoughts

I must sound like a broken record at this point, but I really dig this aesthetic treatment for the Lange 1 25th anniversary models. It's distinctive, it nods to a collector-favorite model from the brand's past, and it doesn't scream "This is an anniversary watch!" at everyone who passes by. The Lange 1 Time Zone has been covered in-depth here on HODINKEE before, and it's one of the more polarizing Lange 1 variations out there. Personally, I'm a fan – I like travel watches in general, and I happen to think this unusual execution is both beautiful and easy to use. I also love the execution of the movement finishing here, with the extra bridges giving Lange's watchmakers even more surfaces to decorate. Something to note is that this is one of the larger Lange 1 models, coming in at 41.9mm across and 10.9mm thick, so you'll need a slightly larger wrist to rock it.
