Nomos Glashütte: Celebrating A Century Of Bauhaus Design School
Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known as Bauhaus and literally meaning “building house”, was a German art school founded in 1919. Despite the school closing in 1933, the term Bauhaus remains highly influential in contemporary design up until today. One of the school’s directors used to be Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a German-American architect whose approach towards design was based on the belief that “less is more”. With their symmetrical outline, reduced dials and iconic typography all Nomos watches resemble key characteristics of Bauhaus design.
The limited edition Tangente – A century of Bauhaus models come in three sizes: 33, 35 and 38 mm
The Tangente was the first watch released by Nomos in 1992 and is often referred to as a “Bauhaus watch”. It has remained the brand’s most iconic and best-selling line ever since. To celebrate the influential design school’s 100th Anniversary in 2019, Nomos has revealed a special edition of the minimalist Tangente. The timepieces will be available in the three primary colors as well as in three different case sizes, each version limited to 100 pieces. Inside works the Nomos Alpha Caliber, an in-house manually wound movement featuring a 43-hour power reserve.
All models show a new off-white “sketch paper” dial
The watches come in a 33-, 35-, or 38-millimeter polished stainless steel case, and each size is available in red, yellow or blue. The colored minute track encircles a matte, off-white “sketch paper” dial, black arabic numerals and a running small seconds at 6 o’clock. As the hour and minute hands follow the color ring, they depict the basic principle of the watch: time moving in a circle.
