G-Shock G-SQUAD GBD-H1000 with Heart Rate Monitor and GPS

Casio announced the highly anticipated G-Shock GBD-H1000 for an April 2020 release. This new G-SQUAD fitness series features built-in GPS and five sensors: an optical heart rate monitor, pressure sensor (altimeter and barometer), compass, thermometer, and accelerometer for step counting. The high-contrast memory-in-pixel (MIP) LCD display is reminiscent of the G-Shock GPR-B1000 Rangeman, as its pixels fill the whole area and can show a lot of information at once. Other notable features include automatic GPS time syncing, Bluetooth mobile link, vibration alerts, solar power, and USB charging. As a G-Shock, the GBD-H1000 is fully shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200 meters.

Some of the training functions include displaying the distance, speed, and pace measured by GPS or accelerometer, automatic run timing start, and target alarm setting (time, altitude, calories burned). The training display on the watch is customizable.

By analyzing measured data, the watch can display an indicator of cardiorespiratory capacity (VO2max). With the Bluetooth functionality and smartphone app, the user can manage recorded data such as calories burned and and logged travel. Training analysis functions include fitness level trend, training load trend, VO2max, and recovery time. The training log data measures up to 100 runs (and up to 140 laps per run) with elapsed time, distance, pace, calories burned, heart rate, maximum heart rate, aerobic training effect, and anaerobic training effect. A map display of the route traveled (recorded with GPS) is available on the smartphone app. The smartphone app can also automatically create training plans that are tailored to set targets.

Other features include world time (38 cities), stopwatch (1-second units, 99:59’59 total with elapsed and split times), countdown timer (60 minutes, with up to 5 repeatable interval timers), 4 daily alarms with snooze alarms, power save function, and full auto Super Illuminator LED backlight. The watch has a curved back cover and a soft urethane band.

The battery life in training mode (with continuous GPS and heart rate monitor use) is about 14 hours. In time mode (including step counting and notifications), it is about 12 months. These estimates are without additional solar power considered. Using GPS and the heart rate monitor will require the watch to be recharged with the USB cable, but in time mode only, it seems likely that the watch will be rechargeable and operational from only solar power. Update: The GBD-H1000 page at world.g-shock.com confirms that the watch can be charged with solar charging alone for time mode (including step counting and notification functions), provided the watch is charged about eight hours daily under indoor fluorescent lighting (500 lux) and at a sunny window side for two hours per week (10,000 lux).

The GBD-H1000 is a significant advancement for the G-SQUAD line and is a useful tool for serious runners and athletes, as well as for those who just want to monitor their everyday health. With its environmental sensors, the watch also has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts. The GPS time-syncing feature is also a major selling point for those who want automatic time adjustment, as the watch is able to sync anywhere in the world without a smartphone connection (unlike Multi-Band 6 watches that are limited to the range of the radio transmitters).

Another feature that deserves attention is the notifications function. The promotional video (below) shows a menu of smartphone notifications on the watch, including email, text (SNS) messages, and phone calls. This smartphone notification function has been absent on other (recent) Bluetooth-equipped G-Shock watches, and will be a very welcome and useful feature. There is more information for the notification function at world.g-shock.com. It also includes calendar and reminder notifications. Vibration alerts can be used, but notifications are not displayed in training mode.

The four debut models are the black GBD-H1000-1, black and white GBD-H1000-1A7, red GBD-H1000-4, and black and red GBD-H1000-8. The GBD-H1000 measures 63.0 x 55.0 x 20.4 millimeters and weighs about 101 grams. In Japan, each model will have a list price of 50,000 JPY each (plus tax) and will be released on April 24, 2020.

Firstbeat Technologies added a GBD-H1000 page with more information about its training features at firstbeat.com.

Η Casio πάει προς τα smartwatches, που είναι η τάση, λογικό, αλλά αν τα δικά σας είναι 200m και G protected, είναι εντυπωσιακό και μπροστά από τους υπόλοιπους.

G-Shock GSR-H1000AS-SET with GSR-H1000AS-1 running watch and CMT-S20R-AS motion sensor, co-developed by ASICS

Εικόνα

Casio officially announced the G-Shock GSR-H1000AS-SET, which includes the G-Shock GSR-H1000AS-1 running watch and the Casio CMT-S20R-AS motion sensor. The set will be released on March 4, 2021, in Japan with a tax-included retail price of 57,200 JPY. The CMT-S20R-AS will also be available individually for 14,080 JPY (tax-included), but the GSR-H1000AS-1JR watch will only be available as part of the set. The watch and motion sensor were announced in Japan and Asia, but release details were only provided for Japan so far.

The watch and motion sensor were co-developed by Casio and Asics, and they offer new and advanced running features beyond those of previous G-Shock models. The 37-gram (44-gram with body cover) CMT-S20R-AS motion sensor is equipped with a 9-axis sensor for measuring 20 types of running form indicators and GPS for measuring distance and pace. Some of the form indicators include core angle, pelvic rotation, and ground impact. The sensor connects to the watch or a smartphone via Bluetooth, and running measurements, pace data, and form data are viewable on the watch in real time. The form alert function notifies the runner of form irregularities, and the pace guide helps to achieve time-based goals. The motion sensor has an integrated clip and is IPX7 water resistance, and the rechargeable battery lasts about 20 hours.

Εικόνα

The GSR-H1000AS-1 watch features an optical heart rate monitor and can measure VO2 max, which is useful for endurance training. Other features include shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, MIP LCD display, 3-axis accelerometer for step counting, GPS, Bluetooth, soft urethane band, vibration alerts, smartphone notification mode (for calls, email, and messaging, not displayed during running measurement), USB charging, and automatic time adjustment through a smartphone or GPS. (Complete specifications for the GSR-H1000AS-1, including dimensions and weight, are not available yet.)

The GSR-H1000AS-1 watch and CMT-S20R-AS motion sensor will work with the free Runmetrix smartphone app (coming January 27 on the Apple App Store and Google Play), which is described as a “personal coaching service.” Features of the app include form and pace analysis, personal coaching, and a training log. The training log includes session information and statistics aggregated by week, month, and year. The personal coaching includes instructions and videos on how to improve form (including exercise programs with stretching and muscle training) and automatic training plans to help reach individual goals, ranging from improved fitness, faster running times, and endurance strengthening for distance. In the mapped route display, the running pace and running index data can be viewed at 1-kilometer intervals along the route. The watch and motion sensor can record the route on their own (individually), and the mapped route can be viewed later on the smartphone app.

Εικόνα

The CMT-S20R-AS motion sensor, which is available separately, can also be used with Runmetrix without the watch. Casio and Asics are also planning to launch the Walkmetrix app in October 2021, which will be useful to more casual users looking to improve their fitness.

Εικόνα

To commemorate the collaboration, Asics is also releasing a co-branded Nova Blast running shoe for men and women on March 4.
The shoe matches the color scheme of the watch and has G-Shock and Asic logos on the shoelace holder and insole.
The shoe features the new FlyteFoam Blast midsole material, but it does not have any smart features.

G-Central’s Take:

The GSR-H1000AS-1 will take the place of the GBD-H1000 as G-Shock’s premier running watch, with more advanced features available through the included motion sensor and Runmetrix app. It doesn’t make the GBD-H1000 completely obsolete, as it does not have solar charging or environmental sensors (altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer) like that model. Those who want the best running features should consider the GSR-H1000AS-SET, but the GBD-H1000 (also with heart rate monitor and GPS) still offers much value to runners with its measurement and training features, as well to as non-runners with its outdoor features, GPS timekeeping, and smartphone notifications.

Despite its similarity to the GBD-H1000 and GBD-100, the GSR-H1000AS-1 is not being marketed as part of the G-SQUAD line. In Japan, it is categorized as “Runner’s Creation.” The GSR-H1000AS-1 also does not appear to be part of the upcoming G-SMART line, which is expected to include the GSW-H1000. With the release of the GSR-H1000AS-1 in spring and no official mention of the GSW-H1000 yet, we now speculate that the GSW-H1000 will be released in October at the latest, with an announcement coming sometime before then.
