New summer G-shocks
G-Shock, the constantly evolving, almost indestructible and incredibly collectible watch from Casio has introduced a range of new faces for 2012. The fact that there are new watches does not come as a surprise. As of 2011, over 2,000 different G-Shock models have been released since their 1983 debut. It’s all come a long, long way from the DW5000C-1A, the original G-Shock launched seemingly a lifetime ago in 1983. It was described as the world’s first shock resistant watch.
Over 30 versions of the original G-SHOCK have appeared on the market since; low-temperature proof models, mud-proof watches highly resistant to mud or dirt, versions with built-in temperature sensors, pressure sensors and other support features, a diver’s watch and more.
G-Shock 150A collection
And so to the new batch of G-Shocks. Known as the GA-150A Collection, the new look is three dimensional with a striking analogue and digital face. The unique dial treatment, in which the dial has a concave design that sinks into the watch face, creates distinctive shadows, and gives depth to the overall watch. All the toys so beloved of G-Shock collectors are still on board: with anti-slip side buttons, shock and water resistant as per usual, auto LED light, magnetic resistance and the obligatory 1/1000th second stopwatch with speed indicator, the GA-150A Collection will be available in metallic green, orange or blue, as well as the GA-150 in matte black or white.
G-Shock with Smart Access System
As an acknowledgement that G-Shock watches can be hard to configure, Casio have introduced the Casio G-Shock Smart Access System which makes fine tuning all the many features a whole lot easier. The Casio GW-A1000-1ADF offers a wide range of functions that are especially practical for pilots. With the intuitive method of turning the crown switch, the wearer can select the time in different cities around the world. In addition, with just a simple press of the switch, the wearer can switch between home time and world time, or instantly display Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Features like these ensure the time information pilots need is only a touch away. Since the hour, minute, and second hands are driven by separate motors, the hands respond quickly when the wearer resets or starts the stopwatch, or switches between different time displays.
At the same time, the “Smart Access” system enables convenient, simple operation of the watch’s wide range of features, including a “fly-back” function that allows the stopwatch to be instantly reset and start during operation as well as instant temperature display at the press of a button.
