Montblanc TimeWalker TwinFly Chronograph GreyTech
At SIHH Montblanc unveiled the limited edition TimeWalker TwinFly Chronograph GreyTech. The manufacture movement positions both the chronograph seconds and minute hands in the center of the dial to improve the 60-minute totalizer’s legibility. When the flyback function is activated, both hands race back to their starting position and instantly start measuring another interval, giving rise to the “TwinFly” name. Find the launch date, pricing and wallpaper images inside.
The dial offers an array of textures and levels along with seven time displays. Working from the outside in, the elapsed chronograph seconds are displayed along the outermost periphery. Just inside of the seconds, the highly-legible hour track in anthracite surrounds circular apertures that reveal the date disk beneath. The current date is displayed in a white-framed window at 9 o’clock. White scales are printed for the 24-hour second time zone indicator at 12 o’clock, and for the small seconds at 6 o’clock. The innermost track is the elapsed chronograph minutes, which are indicated by a centrally-mounted hand. This 60-minute track is significantly larger than those found on traditional chronographs, making it much easier to read. The hour and minute hands and hour indices incorporate luminous material to assure good legibility in the dark.
Beneath the indications, the in-house Caliber MB LL100 chronograph functions are controlled via a column-wheel, and a low-wear disc-coupling transfers energy from the fourth-wheel to the chronograph-wheel, while a newly-calculated profile for the gear teeth improves the energy efficiency. The movement’s twin barrels provide a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. This reservoir of power helps compensate for amplitude fluctuations that occur when the chronograph function is switched on or off, and it improves the stability of the rate in all operating modes.
The 43mm titanium case is pearl-blasted and the sapphire crystals are anti-reflective on both sides. The display back offers a clear view of the movement with its rhodium-plated dark grey chassis, which creates an attractive contrast with the golden wheels, the blued screws and the red ruby jewels.
A pronged buckle made of bead-blasted titanium keeps the strap securely closed around its wearer’s wrist. In accord with the understated styling in shades of grey, the case is matte finished all around, the middle part of the case is vertically brushed, and both the bezel and the edge of the case’s back are bead blasted.
The Montblanc TimeWalker TwinFly Chronograph GreyTech will be manufactured in a limited edition of 888 specimens and will be available starting in autumn of 2012. The price will be 10,990 euros or local equivalent.
