Re: DEFAKTO uhren
Hello,
today I am proud to inform you about our new product: The Defakto Akkord, which is our first two handed watch being available coming october.

The Defakto Akkord also introduces the whole new crown, which will be available for all our other models soon. On top we added a sapphire crystal to avoid unrequested scratches. To ensure comfortable wearing the wristbands are made of soft veal leather. Customers can decide between the colors black, dark grey and bright brown. The clasp has a lasered in Defakto branding. Re: DEFAKTO uhren
Initial Impressions: DEFAKTO Eins Nachtschicht
Recently, Defakto sent us a sample Eins Nachtschicht (Nightshift) to wear and review. I have mentioned a couple of Defaktos (here and here) before, but this is the first chance I’ve had to hold one, or even see one in person. It happened to have arrived the same day as our C. Ward C8 Vintage, which was very fortunate, as they represent very different ideas about watch making and it was great to see them together. Neither sacrifice quality for frills, but where the C. Ward is an ode to affordable luxury and tradition, the Eins is a stripped down thesis on contemporary design in watches, and the very idea of using a watch. And this can be seen from just the packaging alone.
The C. Ward is cradled in a shell of soft leather and wood that weighs nearly three pounds. It comes with various papers and a microfiber cloth. It’s beautiful and reinforces the quality of the product. The Eins comes in a 3.25” x 3.25” x 2.25” black cardstock box with a slight texture. “DEFAKTO” is screened in white on the top of the box. The watch itself is strapped to a roll of black foam…and that is it, except for the small bag of German gummy bears Mr. Ickler kindly included, but that is probably not standard. The packages speaks to simplicity, truth to materials and a graphic minimalism that defines the look and feel of the brand from the logo to their website…and I can’t tell you how excited I was to see this. In my mind, it confirmed that the aesthetic of the watches and the philosophy of the brand are one. The Eins is not an anomaly in their line up, it’s their standard.
Upon initial inspection, the watch is exactly what you want and expect in this price range: a nice PVD coating, good detailing on the body, a very cleanly printed face and a sturdy strap. It features a sapphire crystal, full lume dial (hence Nightshift model) and an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, all welcome details. Putting it on, I immediately noticed that the 42mm case is surprisingly thin at about 9mm, which makes for a very comfortable watch. The face is super clean and stands out, giving it a lot of wrist presence despite its svelte profile. And then there is the single, large hand with which you tell the time, the usage of which I’ll tell you about in the full review to follow.

Re: DEFAKTO uhren
Defakto Detail
Back in November, we reviewed the Defakto Eins Nachtschicht, the ETA powered one handed timepiece by German watch maker Raphael Ickler. What we found to be “simple and striking”, the Eins is one of several similarly styled one and two-handed models in the Defakto line-up. This month, Defakto released its newest one-handed piece, the Detail, which sets itself apart with a fresh new look and comparably lower price tag.
In keeping with the standards seen throughout the Defakto line, the Detail features quality components including sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and Ronda 715 quartz movement. The case is a brushed stainless steel with solid screw down back and the dial comes in either black or white with contrasted marking.
Somewhat more subdued when compared to other Defakto pieces, the Detail features more lightweight markings, thin needle hand and 40mm x 6.6mm case. Even the logo on the dial is smaller when compared to other models that also feature the Defakto insignia.
What is most notable about the Detail is its price tag of 280 euro ($340 USD), which is significantly more affordable than the other Defakto models, which range from approximately 300 to 400 euro. This is in great part due to the inclusion of a quartz rather than mechanical movement. Its should be noted however that the practical effect of the quartz movement is minimal, as there is no active ticking second hand to draw your attention to the quartz mechanism.
All in all, the Detail is a fresh and more affordable take on Defakto’s unique approach to watch design. To learn more and pick one up for yourself, check out Defakto’s website today.
